ORGAN & BLOOD DONATION HARAM? HALAL?

Assalamualaikum Warahamathulahi Wabarakatuhu

A great conflict is running between various Islamic Scholars about Organ & Blood Donation. But in Qura’an or Hadith there is no verse saying it haram or halal. What do you think about this? Do you think it’s Haram? Or Do you think it’s Halal? The point is very simple. We donate our organs or blood in order to save a life. So, have ALLAH the Most-merciful or Our Prophet Muhammad (Salallahu’Alayhiwassalam) forbade it? No, ALLAH encouraged us in saving a life (Organ & Blood Donation) through these verses.

ALLAH says : “Because of that, We decreed upon the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land – it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one – it is as if he had saved mankind entirely. And our messengers had certainly come to them with clear proofs. Then indeed many of them, [even] after that, throughout the land, were transgressors.” [ Holy Quran, Surah Al-Ma’idah, Ayath 32]

This one verse from Qura’an is enough to prove that Organ & Blood Donation to be Halal (allowed) in Islam. But there lies certain conditions for it to be Halal.

• Donate only if you’re sure that, the victim’s life will be saved.
• Donation must never affect your health or life, if it does then it’s like you have tried to kill yourself. Which is Haram.
• Donate only if it’s compulsory and must never try to donate voluntarily when there lies various alternative method. In such, case the donation would be haram.

Once the above points are checked, then we can donate our blood or organs, it would be halal (permissible) in Islam. And ALLAH will reward us with the good deed equal to saving the whole human race. So, I conclude Organ & Blood Donations are permissible in Islam, only if you follow the above three points. May ALLAH (Subhana’Wa’Thala) reward us all for our good deeds.
