CAN I DO TAYAMMUM (DRY ABLUTION) ?

Assalamualaikum Warahamathulahi wabarakatuhu

Many of us would have his doubt, Can I do Tayammum ? in their mind. Tayammum is nothing but, dry ablution i.e.., opposite to Wodhu (where water is compulsory). Tayammum is done without the usage of water. Below, you shall read about the conditions of Tayammum (Dry Ablution) and proper method to perform it.

Conditions for Doing Tayammum:

Unavailability of water.
Water Shortage (If water is used to do wodhu, then some one would suffer).
Water sickness (Can’t touch or use water due to illness).
Unable to reach water (the river or pond is very far away and if he/she leaves his house would be robbed).
Fear of missing the prayer, if he walks to get water.
Can use water, but cannot do wodhu individually (due to extreme old age or other problems, where assistance is required for all work).

Only in these conditions one is permissible to perform Tayammum (Dry Ablution). And it’s forbidden if it is done due to laziness or any other factors. They main factor is Water. Only the above mentioned are valid excuses for doing Tayammum. This would have solved your one doubt Can I do Tayammum?.

Method of Doing Tayammum:

ALLAH the most-merciful says : “O you who have believed, when you rise to [perform] prayer, wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows and wipe over your heads and wash your feet to the ankles. And if you are in a state of janabah, then purify yourselves. But if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have contacted women and do not find water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and hands with it. Allah does not intend to make difficulty for you, but He intends to purify you and complete His favor upon you that you may be grateful. [ Holy Qura’an Surah Al-Ma’idah, Ayath 5]

The highlighted words on the above surface show that, ALLAH the Almighty has said that, one can perform Tayammum with clean earth. Tayammum can be done by touching clean earth or anything that is made of earth e.g. Wall (or components of earth like clay, cement, brick) or it can also be done on what is present above the land (grass, pebbles etc..,). But compulsorily Tayammum has to be done in clean earth and in a extreme situation one can use the other mentioned modes.

One must have a Niyyah (Intention) in their mind, and must start with Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem (In the Name of ALLAH, the most-beneficent and the most merciful).
Keep the hand on the clean earth or other above mentioned materials and rub the both hands on the face, where the hands touch the back of the ears (as done on normal Wudhu).
Now, again touch the clean earth or other materials and rub your left hand over the right hand touching the fingers till the elbow, and do the same on the left hand using the right hand.

ALHAMDHULILLAH, now you have completed the Tayammum (Dry Ablution). And can start to pray. And your question Can I do Tayammum? is answered.
