Assalamualaikum Warahamathulahi Wabarakatuhu
The signs of ALLAH the most-powerful is visible to all. Among those signs the sun and the moon are a important sign. Both of then set and arise, with the permission of ALLAH the Almighty. Remember, ALLAH is not the sun GOD or moon GOD, but ALLAH is the one and only GOD, the creator and fashioner of the whole universe.
Hence, the occurrence of Eclipse i.e.., solar and lunar eclipse are one of the sign of ALLAH the Almighty. They are nothing but, they are signs that would create fear in mankind, which would help them to return to ALLAH our creators path. Occurrence of Eclipse is a major sign of ALLAH the Almighty. Due to which, it is compulsory to pray the two rakaths of Eclipse prayer Salath-ul-kusoof.
During the time of Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Wa’alaihiwassalam), the Solar Eclipse occurred, on the day of his son Ibrahim (Radhiallahu Anhu’s) death. Our most beloved Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Wa’alaihiwassalam) was in much sad. And the people thought the Solar Eclipse occurred due to Prophet’s son’s death.
Hence it is reported by Abu Bakr:
” We were with Allah’s Apostle when the sun eclipsed. Allah’s Apostle stood up dragging his cloak till he entered the Mosque. He led us in a two-rak`at prayer till the sun (eclipse) had cleared. Then the Prophet (p.b.u.h) said, “The sun and the moon do not eclipse because of someone’s death. So whenever you see these eclipses pray and invoke (Allah) till the eclipse is over.”” [Sahih Bukhari, Chapter 18, Hadith#150]
This hadith says that, the Eclipse does not occur due to someone’s death or life.
And it is also Narrated by `Aisha (Radiallahu Anha): “ In the lifetime of Allah’s Apostle (p.b.u.h) the sun eclipsed, so he led the people in prayer, and stood up and performed a long Qiyam, then bowed for a long while. He stood up again and performed a long Qiyam but this time the period of standing was shorter than the first. He bowed again for a long time but shorter than the first one, then he prostrated and prolonged the prostration. He did the same in the second rak`a as he did in the first and then finished the prayer; by then the sun (eclipse) had cleared. He delivered the Khutba (sermon) and after praising and glorifying Allah he said, “The sun and the moon are two signs against the signs of Allah; they do not eclipse on the death or life of anyone. So when you see the eclipse, remember Allah and say Takbir, pray and give Sadaqa.” The Prophet then said, “O followers of Muhammad! By Allah! There is none who has more ghaira (self-respect) than Allah as He has forbidden that His slaves, male or female commit adultery (illegal sexual intercourse). O followers of Muhammad! By Allah! If you knew that which I know you would laugh little and weep much. “ [Sahih Bukhari, Chapter 18, Hadith#154]
So, my dear brothers and sisters, when we sight Lunar or Solar Eclipse, we must stand pray to ALLAH the Almighty, and must say Takbir, and give Sadaqa (Charity).
